Inspecta starts the certification of electronical payment terminals (EMV) in Finland [2009-12-01]

Inspecta Sertifiointi Oy has 1.12.2009 acquired new certification business concerning electronical payment terminals. This forms a new part of product certification service portfolio as of 1.12.2009. Two experts start at Inspecta to provide the services to the customers.

The purpose of EMV (EuroCard, MasterCard, Visa) certification is to ensure that the payment terminals work according to the requirements set by Visa and MasterCard and the interoperability between EMV cards and terminals. In addition the payment terminals need to fulfill a large range of other requirements concerning e.g. functionality and IT security. The certification delivers confidence both to merchants and cardholders that the transactions by chip and pin work as expected.

In Finland the certification has been previously done by Luottokunta. A strong co-operation between Inspecta and Luottokunta will continue also after the agreement. “The certification of payment terminals is a totally new business area for Inspecta. Ensuring the security of monetary transactions is however a natural addition in enhancing trust and safety”, says Jukka Verho, country manager of Finland.
